REPORT OF CITY OF PEACE INITIATIVE (CPI) COVID-19 AWARENESS CAMPAIGN/ INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY CELEBRATIONS HELD ON MONDAY SEPTEMBER 21, 2020 OGOMBO COMMUNITY, ETI- OSA LOCAL GOVERNMENT, LAGOS STATE.
The CPI team and some volunteers were at the Coastal community of Okun Ajah, Ogobmo that lies just along the Atlantic Ocean beach at 12 noon WAT. Despite the last-minute change of plan as the initial proposed location of Secondary school in Yaba, was no longer feasible due to a change in the School administration management, we still had an impactful event.
CPI set out to create awareness on the need to stop the spread of COVID-19 at Williams Group of Schools and the in the local market/ shops in Okun, Ajah, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Lagos State. Face masks, hand sanitizers, and a hand-washing unit with liquid soap were donated.
The recommended hand washing method was demonstrated to the students by Barr Abiola Falaye. Also, a talk on ‘The significance of the finding personal and collective peace’ to commemorate the International Day of Peace & Covid-19 prevention tips was given by Barr Abiye Tam-George and Barr Chigozie.
Thereafter, facemasks and hand sanitizers were distributed to members of the community members. The target community members were artisans, traders, and students at the lower-income bracket.
This community is of great significance as it is hosts to some private/commercial beaches and as the lockdown has been lifted it is vital to have this awareness to help control community transmission of Covid-19.
City of Peace Initiative, Lagos, Trustees, and members planned and executed the Covid-19 Awareness, with the Financial grant from International City of Peace. The accounts and pictures are attached to this Report.
